The Grim Reaper MLP – Making of

February 17, 2009

This was my second my little pony customisation. I decided to do the grim reaper, but not just your generic one – this is the my little pony grim reaper. He’s cute, colourful and just a little sassy. He also enjoys a hot cup of coffee in the morning and horse rides on the beach….. possibly.  This is just a general ‘making of’. If you have any specific questions feel free to give me a shout or post a comment 🙂

I’m going to be posting re-rooting, tail and various other tutorials soon!

Keeping the hair out of the way with plait bands. Started the undercoat - work in small areas. You get a much more even tone that way rather than just sloshing paint about.

Use a tiny brush for details like the curves. It normally takes quite a few coats to get a good even coverage. Wait for it to dry in between layers.

Yay! Pony fully painted. The hair here looks awesome, I'm going to get the windswept look going on another one at some point.

I made the reaper man up in sections and smoothed them on to each other. I then carefully sat him on the horse, arranged and smoothed him down some more. To get the cape to look a bit windswept I added wire on the sides.

after painting the reaper man and finally sealing the whole thing I'm done! The reaper man's eyes have tiny blue dots (terry pratchett thing)

Zombie MLP – the making of

February 17, 2009

I’ve recently gotten in to customising my little ponies. Why? Well it’s pretty cheap (compared to many craft hobbies), tons of fun and just…cute. It is however very time consuming!  Being obsessed with zombies I just had to give a zombie pony a go and here’s the result and the various stages the poor abused pony went through.

First we cut out its eye and give it a stump leg. Use a sharp knife, cut away from fingers!

Then we give it a nice white base coat and fill in the main colours. Use acetone to remove symbols and eye paint. I used fimo for the rib cage, eye and eye socket.

More painting to fill in the details. I cut into the mouth to give it the creepiness factor. Glue for the mohawk and lots of patience.

More painting to give it a greenish tint and shading and ta dah!! One custom zombie my little pony.

How to get your etsy mini on wordpress

February 1, 2009

kind of….

I love wordpress but it’s lack of code can be a tad frustrating.  For instance it can’t / won’t support the etsy mini. Yeah I could insert any image but I like the look of the mini and it saves me the hassle of getting together images, cropping, pasting and then repeating all that again when I fancy a change.

So here’s how to do it – kind of. This is more a way to insert a hyper linked image but it works and it’ll be pretty easy to change it every now and again.

Get a screenshot of your etsy mini and upload it to a photo hosting site. Add the TEXT widget to your blog and insert the following code, replacing the text in caps with the relevant info. It might also be an idea to add some words after the alt tag. These tags are picked up by search engines so you might as well seize the chance to improve your rankings while you’re at it 🙂

<a href=”SHOP LINK HERE” title=”SHOP NAME – THIS WILL APPEAR WHEN YOU HOVER OVER IMAGE”><img src=”IMAGE LINK HERE” width=”INSERT WIDTH IMAGE” height=”INSERT HEIGHT IMAGE” alt=”etsymini” /></a>

If you have any questions jut leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
